Upcoming elections and the marina docks

Please consider voting for new board members, listed below, who will work to make a more inclusive and fair community for all.

Many HOA members have questioned why the docks, which are common property, have been limited to only a select few members. Moreover, all HOA members pay property taxes based partly on the assessed value of the docks. Further, the POASI Board has kept the dock fee artificially low, while consistently raising dues to all members.

The 2020 Love Suissevale dock survey showed that 92% of respondents were against the Board’s 2016 policy permitting common property docks to be transferred to family members. See survey here. After the survey, the Board temporarily freed up about 4 docks.

Board members, their friend’s and family’s standard response to factual, verifiable statements such as discussed here are ‘There is a lot of misleading information being spread around by people who like to complain.’

This is an Ad hominem fallacy that people use when the truth and facts don’t benefit their personal goals.

Ad hominem definitions:

1 : appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect

2 : marked by or being an attack on an opponent's character rather than by an answer to the contention

There are 14 current Board members. 11 are dock holders and many have children that will inherit “their” common-property docks. (Annual dock fee is $1,000 which is less than a third of the market value). At least one board member already inherited a dock from their parents.

New Board members could offer new approaches to better serve our entire community. i.e. perhaps something simple and undeniably fair such as a 25-year limit on the docks.

Here’s the new Board candidates:

Ginny Davis, Jim Graham, Tom Keddy

Three new Board members will initially have minimal impact to a Board of 14 people but will begin a positive path to succession.

Ballots will be mailed out in early May.

Please consider voting for the above candidates for a more inclusive and fair community for all.
